The CLPNA Is Now the CLHA

Health Care Aide (HCA) regulation is now in force. The College of Licensed Practice Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) has changed its name to the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).

Here are the changes that Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) can expect.

  • New logo: The college logo has changed to reflect the regulation of two distinct professions.
  • New colours: All LPN documents and web pages use purple for headings, banners, etc. HCA documents and pages will use blue.
  • New website: The website has launched with a new domain, clha.com. We recommend updating any bookmarks that you may have.
  • Same access: The college is expanding in order regulate two professions.

Will This Change Affect the Roles of HCAs and LPNs in the Healthcare System?

Sharing a regulatory college does not affect the different roles of LPNs and HCAs in the healthcare system. LPNs and HCAs are distinct professions.

Will Resources for LPNs Change?

The CLHA continues to expand in order to regulate two professions fairly and effectively. LPNs will continue to have access to the same professional development, regulatory resources, and practice advice that they currently receive to assist in providing safe, competent, and ethical care.
